Grape Planting Guide... Beginning To Plant

When starting your grape planting you should plant your vines at least six feet apart and if you are planning on growing a larger crop, the vines should be grown in rows that are at least eight feet wide. As to depth of planting, the usual direction has been to plant about as deep as they stood in nursery. But increased experience now favors deeper planting. Each of your new grapevines should produce about one gallon of wine but keep in mind that you may loose some grapes due to a small crop or pests such as insects or birds so you might want to plant extra grapevines depending on how much wine you are looking to produce.

Since you are planting a vine, you will need to supply a trellis for the grapevine to grow on. You must dig a larger then normal hole for the vines to have plenty of room to grow and this allows the soil to be loosened allowing for good drainage.
